The second stage of the Systems Development Life
Cycle is that of Systems Study. The aim of this stage is to look
at and analyse the problems of the existing system, to define the
objectives to be achieved by the solution and to investigate the
different methods available for achieving this solution.
To answer the questions posed at this stage and to identify any new
functions which will be of value to the end-users as well
as the business requires an extensive search of information.
This information is obtained by analysis of documents, work papers and
reports. Additional information is gathered from the end-users by the use
of questionnaires, interviews and observation of the existing system whether
it is manual or computerised. The data collected at this stage can
then be used to determine the requirements of the new system.
The end product of the Systems Study will be a Systems Proposal Report
